Mode d’Emploi – A Festival of Ideas

November 16, 2015 @ 8:00 am - November 29, 2015 @ 5:00 pm

Please note: Many of the Mode d’Emploi events are still scheduled to continue, despite the terrorist attacks of this past November 13.  According to the organizers of the festival: “In the face of this horror, in the face of violence, it is important to continue to discuss and to live these ideas.”  Detailed continuing updates to the Mode d’Emploi program are available here.

Once again, the Institute for Religion, Culture, and Public Life is pleased to co-sponsor events within the Villa Gillet’s Mode d’Emploi festival. Professors Karen Barkey, Souleymane Bachir Diagne, and Mamadou Diouf will participate in a variety of conversations with other thinkers, artists, and public figures in Lyon, France, this November.

The “Festival of Ideas” is an annual gathering hosted by Villa Gillet featuring two weeks of meetings, lectures, performances, and conversations which question the world of today.  Fleur Pellerin, Minister of Culture and Communication, writes that the aim of the festival is to “reverse dogmatism, interrogate the current world, to build hypotheses, and to broaden the scope of knowledge.”

Information on events featuring Professors Barkey, Diagne, and Diouf are available at the Villa Gillet website.  You can also download the full Mode d’emploi program here.

Mode d’Emploi is designed and organized by the Villa Gillet in cooperation with Subsistances. This festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Communication, the National Book Centre, the Rhône-Alpes Region and Lyon Metropole.  Individual events are co-sponsored with a variety of groups, including the Institute for Religion, Culture, and Public Life.

Much more information is also available at villagillet.net.
