Funding Opportunities for Students and Faculty

IRCPL is happy to announce three calls for applications for the academic year 2019-2020. The Institute will provide funding for faculty and students with its Joint Projects, Summer Research Fellowships, and a new Faculty Working Group.

Joint Projects for Columbia Faculty

Joint Projects are an opportunity for Columbia faculty to engage directly with IRCPL and work with the Institute in managing projects and research. Joint Projects are open to full-time officers of instruction at Columbia University, Barnard College, the Union Theological Seminary, and Teachers College. Strong Joint Projects will include an interdisciplinary group of faculty members.
IRCPL Joint Projects will fund projects up to $15,000 for travel, materials, and other expenses related to the design/implementation of the project, although funding of up to $20,000 may be considered under exceptional circumstances. IRCPL encourages the use of this grant for primary research, including access to archives, travel expenses, and research assistantships.

Deadline: Monday, March 4th at 12pm.
Applications must be sent in English to wh2326@columbia.edu.

Summer Research Fellowships

Summer Research Fellowships are open to undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students. The fellowship provides each student a maximum of $4,000 to cover expenses directly related to their research, including travel, lodging, and materials during the Summer of 2019 (and in some cases during the 2019-2020 academic year).

Applications are welcome from students at Columbia University, Barnard College, Union Theological Seminary, Jewish Theological Seminary, and Teachers College.

Deadline: Monday, February 4th at 12pm

CSSD Faculty Working Group

The Institute for Religion, Culture and Public Life (IRCPL) has partnered with the Center for the Study of Social Difference (CSSD) to offer a unique opportunity for a working group in one of the two CSSD research streams (Women Creating Change; Imagining Justice) that focuses in some significant way on issues connected to religion, belief and/or secularism. IRCPL and CSSD will provide funding in the amount of $35,000 over two years with the possibility of $15,000 for a third year, contingent on working group interest and the availability of Center funds.

Submission Deadline: February 4, 2019 by 11:59pm
